" William (Bill) McDonough en Michael Braungart zijn de bedenkers van het business concept Cradle to Cradle (cradle 2 cradle). Het idee is om de industrie te transformeren door een volledig ecologisch intelligent ontwerp. Bekende namen als Ford, Nike en China zijn inmiddels gevallen voor het Cradle to Cradle. In de eerste plaats zijn ze gedwongen het idee serieus te nemen omdat ze voor een grote uitdaging stonden die ze zonder McDonough & Braungart nog niet aankonden. Een tweede doorslaggevend argument is dat het, om het in de woorden van Ford’s plaatsvervangend stafchef Timothy O’Brien te zeggen : … and we are going to by the way make a lot of money out of this. Vandaar zijn woorden: I think this is a philosophy that is going to effect on every industry.
Het begrip Cradle to Cradle houdt in dat je alles volledig recyclet : van wieg tot wieg. Daar hou je van het eerste ontwerp rekening mee. De ideeën komen in eerste instantie onzakelijk over op de heren industrieëlen, maar bij nader inzien blijkt het gewoon te werken. Het levert aan alle kanten geld op om de natuur in te zetten om te recyclen. Het wordt ook Circulaire Economie genoemd. Meer over dit onderwerp op de site van McDonnough. Ja maar... U heeft een zeer mooie uiteenzetting gegeven over een moglijke oplossing op het probleem van de afvalverwerking...
Uiteraard kan je stellen dat alles begint bij jezelf, maar sta me toe toch enige bedenking te maken: Zoals o.a. bij de kyoto-norm... is het niet allemaal een druppel op een hete plaat? Zo lang dat de 'heren'-mega-industrielen hun zin blijven doen kan men wel kleinschalig recycleren... doch... of het effect werkelijk ecologisch merkbare tekenen zal achterlaten blijft nog maar de vraag...
